Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx Highway Driving on Labor Day September 4, 2006

As usual, the traffic was terrible on all highways including the Belt Parkway, Staten Island Expressway, going toward the Varrazzo Narrows Bridge, and on Route 440 from Perth Amboy, New Jersey into Staten Island over the Outerbridge Crossing.
I did not take the Staten Island Expressway over the Gothels Bridge, but I assume it is the same New York/Staten Island annoying traffic BS.
Well, my advice to you folks is find a better way to spend Labor Day AND Memorial Day since traffic is always bad. Stay at home, invite LOCAL friends over, put some steaks on the grill, and enjoy yourselves.
If you need to travel, learn how to fly and buy yourself a little Cessna aircraft to fly right over the Varrazzo bridge and then laugh at all the traffic jams as you look down at the major highways. Keep your eye on the road (air road) so you don’t crash into other private weekend warrior pilots. hee hee. Or, take the train and let the LIRR, New Jersey Transit, Metro North, and Amtrak get you there.
I drove from New Jersey into Long Island and a normal 90 minute drive became 3 hours. The day before that, I drove into New Jersey and it only took me only an hour and 45 mintues, even with that horrible rain storm as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto.
Ok, you get the drift. Happy Labor Day!!!
